Metabolic Awakening

You’re probably very familiar with the term metabolism and have a good understanding of what your metabolism is and how a “slow” or “fast” metabolism can affect our weight. That’s typically where most of us stop learning or caring about the term metabolism. I want to take you a little deeper, because your metabolism influences your weight, body composition, energy, and even your cognitive performance.

Metabolism is the chemical reactions that change food into energy for our cells. Our cells need this energy to power us in life - this energy is the foundation for everything. From moving to thinking and growing to aging. At its core, metabolism is simply our body using fuel (like food) to create the building blocks it needs and to generate the energy required to run cellular processes.

Optimal metabolic function can support healthy aging. Factors that reflect the state of your metabolic health include blood sugar, blood pressure, lipid types and levels, and weight.

Metabolism is the process of converting our food into energy.
Metabolic health is how our body processes that energy.

So, what then is metabolic health? This is how our body processes the energy derived from food. When we have good metabolic health, it means your body can digest and absorb nutrients from food without extreme spikes to our blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Fluctuations in these levels are natural, but it’s important to avoid big spikes, which can cause problems to our long-term health.

According to a National Health and Nutrition Examination survey of over 55,000 people (aged 20+) only 6.8% of American adults have optimal cardiometabolic health! That means 13 of every 14 people can benefit from metabolic health support right now.

How we move, what we eat, quality of relationships and rest, along with managing stress and choosing superior supplementation, all play a role in optimal metabolic health. And of course, genetics affects metabolic health too, but lifestyle choices like exercise, diet, rest, and relationships can totally influence your life for the better!

Sadly, there are no quick fixes to optimal metabolic function. You still have to make smart and healthy lifestyle decisions, but doTERRA launched a new metabolic system,  MetaPWR™, that can help you maximize and optimize the effects of your wellness lifestyle choices.

Sometimes when you don’t see immediate results from your healthy lifestyle choices, or the results aren’t as profound as you wanted them to be, it gets discouraging. The good news is the choices you make daily can put you in control of your metabolic health. You just have to trust that those actions are making an impact.

Your metabolism can be optimized at any stage of life by attending to five pillars of metabolic health: healthy eating, daily movement, healthy connections, stress management, and smart supplementation. I say smart supplementation because you may have heard me say this before, supplements are an unregulated industry. That means companies can basically say and claim whatever they want. So, you need to be getting your supplements (all of them!) from a trusted source. When you’re using the right supplements, you’ll be able to double-down on the benefits of the other pillars, granting you a greater return on your efforts.

At the beginning I reminded you that our metabolism turns our food into energy for our cells. What happens when we don’t make the best choices and eat too much sugar (or foods that turn into sugar)? Simply put, it takes longer for that energy to make its way to our muscles and tissues. Our blood sugar levels are one of the most significant markers of health. These levels naturally fluctuate depending on eating and activity patterns, but it’s important to note constant spikes and crashes in your blood sugar are hard on your body and contribute to poor functioning cells. Think of your blood sugar levels like a rollercoaster ride, once or twice a year probably wouldn't cause long-term issues. However, riding the rollercoaster multiple times a day, week after week might have some potentially serious consequences.

Enter doTERRA MetaPWR™ Metabolic Assist

MetaPWR™ Metabolic Assist serves as a powerful addition to a daily metabolic health regimen, coming alongside our healthy lifestyle to help regulate and stabilize our blood glucose levels post meals. It reduces the absorption of carbohydrates and sugar and contributes to healthy fat metabolism*.

When taken before a large meal, especially your largest meal and/or one higher in carbohydrates, MetaPWR™ Metabolic Assist helps turn “fast carbs” into “slow carbs”, so the glucose doesn’t hit your blood stream as quickly.* Which you learned in my rollercoaster analogy is a good thing.

This is just one product in the MetaPWR™ system. I could easily continue to talk about this and share the rest of the products in the system, but I’m going to split them up, so you can learn about them in smaller doses to hopefully avoid any overwhelm. Next week we’ll continue the metabolic awakening conversation by talking about how our metabolism affects our biological age. So, stay turned to learn how to turn back the life clock.

Thanks for this - I'll look forward to them on Saturdays - I'm also thinking I'd like to sit down with you sometime for how to mix and fill the roller bottles! Whenever you have time - maybe we can plan a time at Team Vertical if that would work for you - Although, I don't go in as early as you do - Thanks again - Jill
