On Monday, 10/3 Steve called his PCP back again about getting the MRI scheduled. The PCP was highly concerned about how much pain he was still in and suggested that he go back to the ER to have an MRI where they could get and read the results immediately. I opted to take him to a different hospital this time around.
Within 45 minutes of arriving at the ER, they had 6 vascular team members in the room because no one could find a pulse in his right foot. They ordered an ultrasound and CT scan and it was only a few minutes of waiting before the ultrasound tech got there. Although he couldn't read the results to us, he said he thought we'd hear the words "surgery" before the day was up. Immediately following the ultrasound they took Steve out to have the CT scan. Within 20 minutes of his CT scan a plain clothed surgeon came in to discuss the "unique/interesting" case that Steve was in.
Steve was admitted to the hospital for pain management and surgery for the blood clots that they found – a dangling clot in his right artery coming out of his stomach, a blood clot in his right thigh, and a blood clot in the back of his knee. The clotting also appeared to be in the tops of the 3 arteries leading down his right leg.
