Oral Hygiene

I recently went to the dentist for my 6-month check-up, and it got me thinking… Are you happy with your oral hygiene?

According to the American Dental Association (ADA) 95% of Americans regard their oral health as a critical part of their overall wellbeing. Awesome, two thumbs up! However, roughly 78% have at least one cavity before the age of 17 and a staggering 80% have some form of gum disease. Plus, more than a third of Americans fail to floss daily, and when they do, well over half use fingernails, paper, utensils, or some other type of object not intended for the mouth.

Oral Hygiene Facts:
Brush teeth for 2 minutes
2x day Floss before you brush, nightly
Mouthwash is optional, but highly recommended
Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months

This may be great information, but you may be wondering why I’m talking about oral hygiene. There are actually two reasons:

1) To keep things simple. Essential oils and other natural solutions are a HUGE part of my self-care routine(s) and overall wellbeing. The bonus is saving money while having quality, toxin-free products [that work] delivered to my door. As a holistic health and wellness advocate, among other natural solutions, I teach about and sell doTERRA Essential Oils products. My goal isn’t to have you spending more money each month, but rather shifting your spending to a company who can add the convenience of quality products delivered to your door. If you are a current doTERRA customer and aren’t already participating in the Loyalty Rewards Program, you should click the link to my page about it – this is the smartest and most cost-effective way to get doTERRA’s extensive line of oils and products into your home.

2) doTERRA has several natural solution options to help you with your oral hygiene goals. doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend has a line of products well known for their immune supporting properties. In this line of doTERRA On Guard® products is the Essential Oil, Natural Whitening Toothpaste, Mouthwash, and Dental Floss that were specifically developed to support our oral health needs.

In addition to the ready-to-use oral hygiene products, there are several essential oils that can help support your oral health needs: Clove, Myrrh, Peppermint, Spearmint, Tea Tree, Tulsi (Holy Basil), and Cinnamon to name a few. These have powerful cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat, and help to promote fresh breath.

Here are some practical ways to use essential oils in your oral hygiene routine:

I've personally had a very solid results using doTERRA oils and products to support my oral hygiene needs. I've been using the products just over 5 years and have never had a cavity, get great feedback from the hygienists and my dentist and I even had lunch to discuss their products because of how impressed she was with my oral health - especially knowing that I was using natural solutions.

And here's a testimonial from one of my clients:
"I wanted to offer up my experience with On Guard toothpaste and mouth rinse. Since I started using them, which is somewhere around 1-2 years ago, my dentist visits have gotten better and better. They are now so good that I literally develop ZERO tartar on my teeth. I used to need a lot of that scraping of my teeth at each cleaning but at last week's visit I had nothing to scrape, which is really surprising to my dentist. This has all led to healthier gums too. What used to be painful visits have now become fairly pleasant." - Traci M.

There are many other natural solutions you can implement to support your oral hygiene goals. Things like, a tongue scrapper, water flosser, oil pooling, baking soda, proper hydration and more. If you haven't tried using some of these natural solution methods and have additional questions don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm here to support you and take the overwhelm out of using essential oils and other natural solutions.
