Lighten the Load

As the longest day of the year just passed [Summer Solstice was Friday, June 20, 2025], we are gifted with more light, warmth, and energy than at any other time. The summer solstice is not just a seasonal marker; it’s a powerful invitation to reset. For centuries, this astronomical event has been revered as a powerful turning point - a celebration of light, life, and the rhythms of nature. Those of us who embrace holistic living, this is a sacred window to reflect, release, and realign.
The solstice is a cosmic pause, the sun stands still ("sol" = sun, "stice" = stand still) before shifting toward shorter days. This pause is symbolic. It invites us to do the same:

  • Reflect on the first half of the year. What have you accomplished? What lessons have emerged?
  • Release anything that’s no longer aligned: habits, clutter, beliefs, or stagnant energy. Let the fire of the sun alter it.
  • Realign with your truest self and intentions. How do you want to grow in the second half of the year? What intentions do you want to bring into fruition.
Holistically, it's a time to move from doing to being, from excess to intentionality. As the sun begins to wane after its peak, we’re reminded that light is precious and we must tend to our own flame with care.

Let’s begin our two-part Summer Solstice Reset by lightening the load - physically, emotionally, and energetically.
CLEAR THE CLUTTER, CLEAR THE MIND 
Nature naturally sheds what it no longer needs, and we should too. Start by releasing physical clutter. Clear out your pantry, clean your car, reorganize your sacred space or workspace. Lighten your surroundings to invite mental clarity and spiritual flow.

Use the energy of the solstice to burn away the heaviness from earlier seasons. Diffuse Lemongrass and Citrus Bliss while you clean. It’s an uplifting blend that supports both focus and emotional release. Add 3 drops of each oil to your diffuser, open your windows, and let the fresh air sweep out what no longer serves you.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR: AROMATHERAPY + BREATHING RITUAL 
Once your space is cleared, take five minutes to pause and breathe deeply. Our breath connects us to the present and offers a quick route to inner calm. Try this simple breathwork sequence:

  • Sit comfortably in a quiet place.
  • Apply a drop of doTERRA Balance Grounding essential oil blend to your wrists.
  • Inhale for a count of 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6.
  • Repeat for 10 rounds.
Visualize tension melting from your shoulders, your mind clearing, and your heart opening to the light and possibility of summer.
SUNLIGHT & MOVEMENT: STRETCH INTO THE SEASON 
Get outside. Your body is craving the vitamin D and natural endorphins from sun and movement. Try a gentle walking meditation in your neighborhood, barefoot grounding in the grass, or light stretching in the morning sun.

For extra release, add this 3-minute solstice stretch sequence:

  • Forward Fold (hold for 30 seconds): Relieves tension in the spine and hamstrings.
  • Legs-Up-the-Wall (hold for 2 minutes): Rebalances circulation and soothes your nervous system.
  • Seated Twist (hold for 30 seconds each side): Supports digestion and detoxification.
Before stretching, apply Peppermint to the back of your neck and calves for a cooling, energizing boost.
RESET YOUR RHYTHM
